Norway’s best rooftop bars

The Norwegian summer only seems to last a couple of minutes. So who wouldn’t want to soak up every single ray of sun before the darkness returns? It’s no wonder people are taking to the roofs to make the most of the evenings with cocktails, beer, or even a meal.

There is plenty of room at the top of The Thief to stretch out and relax in the sun – or under a parasol if you prefer.

The Thief Roof, Oslo

If you aren’t lucky enough to be staying at Oslo’s new hotel, The Thief, you can at least take the elevator to the top and enjoy a Bellini or mojito. The roof offers views out across the city and the Oslofjord. But it can be just as entertaining to watch the clientele: here you will meet top politicians, actors, and thirsty tourists. DJs play at the weekends.

From June 20 to August 22, Stratos at Youngstorget offers beer, cocktails, snacks, and live entertainment. Possibly the best view in Oslo.

Grims Grenka is one of Oslo’s most stylish hotels. Naturally it is topped off with a roof terrace, where you can stretch out on the generous sofas and cool off with a martini. DJs play at the weekends.

Vulkan

In recent years, Oslo has practically gained a new district in Akerselva called Vulkan. It is home to the new Mathallen food hall, PS:hotell, and Dansens hus, to name but a few. Vulkan has also become a cool place to go out for a bite to eat or a drink, and one place you can do both is Bar Vulkan. In summer they open up the roof terrace, where you can order everything from champagne to potent cocktails.

Under Tango’s roof you will find both a restaurant and a bar. And the roof itself has a great atmosphere from the moment the sun comes up.

Tango, Stavanger

Tango is one of the best restaurants in Stavanger. They open the doors to their roof terrace as soon as the weather allows. You can dine up there and enjoy a bottle of wine.

If you have summer guests you want to impress, take them to the Astrum Grill & Raw Bar roof terrace, where they will be blown away by the views.

Astrum, Trondheim

The Clarion Hotel & Congress in Trondheim is located right by the harbor. On the ninth floor is the Astrum restaurant, which has a fabulous roof terrace with views of the Trondheimsfjord. DJs add to the summer mood at weekends. If you want to work off some calories, you can pay a visit to Pirbadet, Norway’s largest swimming facility, which is located near the hotel.

High up at the Skybar of The Edge hotel in Tromsø.

Clarion Hotel The Edge has 11 stories and is right by the water’s edge in Tromso. The Skybar at the top has a rooftop terrace overlooking the city and the mountains, perfect for those summer selfies. The hotel is also home to the Kitchen & Table restaurant, with a menu designed by New York-based Swedish chef Marcus Samuelsson. It’s full of rugged Arctic ingredients, presented in an international style. And of course you can enjoy a beer or other tipple in the midnight sun.
